Roll the Dice Games

Happy Spring!

Hello again!

I apologize for the vast passage of time since the last post. We have been blessed to be busier than ever! In fact, we have also needed to take on our first employee! If you have not done so already, please be sure to welcome David Ingle to the Roll the Dice family. We are so thankful to have him on staff! Be sure to check out David's review of the card game, Poo! in the Featured Games section.

We were the exclusive vendor for Tennessee Game Days for the second year in a row. This year they had an approximately 70% increase in attendance from last year! We got to try out some amazing new games, and hope to bring them into the store soon.

Coming up we will be vending for MTAC again this year. This year the convention will be held at the Nashville Convention Center! That will be an exciting venue for participants!

We also have our first Midnight Prerelease for the new Magic set, Avacyn Restored, on April 28th! I have an inkling I will be really feeling my age by the end of the night on Saturday! This promises to be an amazing new set, with a huge prize support for the event from Wizards of the Coast.

As always, Kristen and I cannot thank you enough for your support, as well as your prayers. We could not be successful without you! We are so grateful for the support that you give us, and for the friendships that have blossomed over the last 1.5 years. We know that this store is not about us, but you, and what you want. So if you have any ideas/suggestions, please feel free to share them. We want to bring in the products and host the events that you want, not what we think you want!

Happy Summer

Wow!  What a Summer so far.  I apologize for the lack of updates recently, but is how Summer always seems to go, right?  With the release of the Magic: The Gathering 2012 Core Set, things have been heating up!  This has been a great set, with cards for the experienced players, but also mechanics to encourage new and/or casual players to get deeper into the game.  It's been a blast so far.

Magic has definitely picked up here recently, but at the same time, we are so much more than Magic.  August will reinforce that.  We are pleased to announce Big Event Saturdays all month!  On August 6th, we will be hosting the first D&D Game Day!  This will be a lead in to the next Encounters season.  For those who play Encounters, the characters you build from Game Day will carry over to the new season.

August 13th, in addition to Magic Game Day, we will also be having GenCon Recap!  We will be going over (and hopefully demoing) a lot of the new things to come that were featured at GenCon this year.

August 20th will be a salute to all things geeky and nerdy, the cornerstone of the event being a game inspired by the television show "The Big Bang Theory", called Bazinga!

August 27th will we will be featuring the miniatures game Monsterpocalypse!  This is a Godzilla-esque tactical miniatures game that captures the curiosity and imagination of anyone who tries it!

As always, thank you so much for all the prayer support and encouragement you have given to Kristen and I.  We are truly blessed to have such strong support.

February

What a January!  We have been so blessed to see our regular weekly events growing!  We've been averaging 20 people for Magic every Thursday, and about 15 for Game Night every Friday and Saturday.

February is packed with special events for you!  Friday, Feb 4, we will be hosting a launch party for the new Magic set, called Mirrodin Besieged.  On the 19th, we will be featuring the game Dominion with a Tournament (see the Featured Game tab for more info on Dominion).  We expect slots to fill fast for this, so get your RSVP now!  On the 26th we have a demo of a miniatures game, called Monsterpocalypse.  If the name is familiar, it might be because Tim Burton is currently directing a film based on this game!  You will not want to miss this opportunity to see what's got one of the most recognizable directors in Hollywood working on this project.

We say it every month, because it cannot be said enough - thank you for your support of this endeavor.  Kristen and I are truly humbled by the people we've met and the friends we've made along the way.  Please continue to pray for us, that God will continue to do His work in this store.

Tennessee Game Days

We’ve had some great events at the store recently. Some great Magic events, an awesome Dominion tournament. But nothing quite stood out like moving our store for a weekend and participating in Tennessee Game Days. This was a three day convention dedicated to board gaming in all of its many forms. From Euro to strategy, to cooperatives, to deck-building, TGD had it all! These were hard-core gamers with a love and passion for gaming that I had not seen before, and well as casual gamers that had not been exposed to many different games. Yet it was so cohesive and laid back, it was fantastic!

The organizers had a library of games that people could check out and play for free. They also put together tours that featured different games with a common theme, like cooperative games, or all created by Reiner Knizia, etc. This was a great way for people to get acquainted with games and have a set group with which to play the games. Combine all of this with various tournaments (like Wits and Wagers and Take It Easy), and you had a solid convention that is sure to please gamers of all varieties.

I also got to meet the creators of a gaming blog, called meepletown.com. These were some great people, a real pleasure to meet them. They also have a review of TGD at their website, so be sure to check it out!

We had the privilege of being the exclusive vendor at the convention this year. This was the first year that TGD had a vendor, so there was a bit of excitement at having us there. It was also a great chance for us to get our name out there, and let people know that we were there.

Next up is MTAC! That’s right, we will be vending and providing the product for their Magic and Pokemon tournaments! This will be a very exciting time! Be sure to find us in the Analog Gaming Room!

As always, Kristen and I appreciate your prayers and support of the store. We are continually amazed and humbled by what God is doing with our store, and you are a part of that! Thank you so much!

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to everyone!  2010 was an amazing year in Kristen's and my life.  A year ago we never expected that we would be moving or running our own business!  God put some specific events in front of us to convince us to try this crazy idea.  We are so thankful He did!  It has been a blessing to meet all of the wonderful people that have come to the store.  We are truly grateful for each of you.

What's new in 2011?  We have some big events coming up.  On January 15th we will devote the afternoon to Killer Bunnies!  We will teach people to play, play several different varieties, and laugh a lot!  If you've never tried Killer Bunnies, you don't want to miss this.  If you have, you already know you don't want to miss this!  On the 20th we will have our first official Magic Tournament.  Admission will be $3.00, and will be a Standard Constructed format.  February 4th brings another Magic event: the Launch Party for Mirrodin Besieged!  We will have different formats, including a draft.

Looking ahead, March 11-13th we will be the vendor at Tennessee Game Days!  This is a convention dedicated to board games, and more importantly, PLAYING board games.  From people who've been there in the past, this is one of the best gaming conventions in the region.  Be sure to mark your calendars.  More to come on this as it gets closer!

Thank you again for all of your continued support.  I know we say this all the time, but that's because it can't be said enough.
